What is Reiki?
Reiki is pronounced
"ray-key". Rei means universal and refers also to the spiritual dimension and the
soul. Ki means the vital
life force energy which flows through all
that is alive.
Reiki is "universal " energy; therefore, it is safely used any time
and at any place.
This technique for activating and applying universal
energy was rediscovered in Japan in the mid 1800s
by Dr. Mikao Usui.
Reiki is the science
and art of activating, directing, and applying natural
energy to promote energy balancing and healing wholeness,
to prevent disorders, and to maintain a state of positive
wellness no matter what your age.
Oriental medicine supports the theory
that the root cause of all disease is blocked energy.
Illness, injury or any other form of
disease presents you
with an opportunity to slow down, take stock of yourself,
examine your situation, reestablish your natural rhythm
and cycle, and nurture yourself.
A way to support your health and well-being
or relieve disease is
to keep the subtle energy in your meridians flowing freely.
The origins of Reiki can be found in
ancient Tibet thousands of years ago. This knowledge of
how to activate a high order of universal life energy can
be traced from Tibet through India. From India, this knowledge
spread into Egypt, Ephesus, Greece and Rome in the West
and into China and, eventually, Japan in the East. This
technique for activating and applying universal energy was
rediscovered in Japan in approximately the mid-1800's by
Dr. Mikao Usui.
Reiki is a science of energy. A normal
Reiki session lasts about one hour. The recipient takes
off his/her shoes and lies down on a massage table. The practitioner
sits at the head or feet of the recipient. With no pressure
and no manipulation the hands stay in one place until the
area being treated stops drawing the energy. The recipient
often feels a calming effect and perhaps warmth or coolness
in the area. Hands are lightly placed over specific places
of the body by the Reiki practitioner. It is safe to use
anytime any place and in any situation. It is a unique individual,
self-transforming experience. It is a technique for activating,
restoring and balancing natural energy. It is used for helping,
healing, preventing disorders, and maintaining positive
wellness. It is easily used with medical and other therapies.
